It was a spud-tacular surprise for me to wake up on Sunday morning to discover Tulip and Doug was making international headlines!
New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, had met with Prince William at Kensington Palace, where she gifted him a copy of Tulip and Doug for his children. Ms Ardern described it as one of her favourite children's books, calling it a "beautiful story about a girl and her pet potato". I hope Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis enjoy the book, too! Check out some of the media coverage here It's a wonderful feeling to see my debut picture book - Tulip and Doug - out in the world, as we here in New Zealand emerge from the Covid-19 Lockdown.
It's the story of an unlikely and ill-fated friendship between an adventurous girl and her ever-present sidekick - a potato called Doug. I'm absolutely in love with Carla Martell's superb illustrations which do such a beautiful job of bringing the story to life. Tulip and Doug is available in bookstores across New Zealand and Australia, and through all the usual online channels. I hope children and their families will enjoy this book as much as we enjoyed creating it! It's such a treat to be a member of the 2020 Debut Crew, a group of debut picture book authors and illustrators from all over the world. We're working together to help promote our books as they launch into bookstores and homes throughout the year.
